Chinese is one of the hardest languages for western people to learn. It has no alphabet and a unique collection of characters, idioms and phrases.

Not only is the language fascinating to study, but there is a wealth of traditional Chinese culture and history to discover along the way.

We worked hard to create a free Chinese vocabulary app that will help you to learn Chinese offline and quickly improve your Chinese language skills.

We designed Mandarin Vocabulary Builder to be a language learning flashcard app with a major improvement over most other spaced repetition apps.

With other Chinese characters learning apps, you might be shown a word or hanzi flashcard, and then given two buttons, one for "yes I remembered the word", and another for "no I forgot".

We think that using those Chinese vocabulary flashcards with only two options, it's too easy to not pay attention and click "yes" or "no" without really reading, meaning you don't actually learn new words and their English definitions.

In this app, For each flashcard you'll be given 4 options with translation, the aim is to guess the word definition correctly. This quickly becomes a fun vocabulary builder game which will keep you motivated.

Using this method, referred to as active recall, you're more actively taking part in the learning process, and it ensures that the app really knows whether you remembered a word or not, which is perfect for preparing for the HSK online test or travelling to China.

The app uses a spaced repetition system. Words you guess correctly will gradually be shown less often. Studies have shown this is the most efficient way to commit information to your long term memory.

Designed to help you memorize the most common words first, this is a great free app for learning Chinese for beginners.

We use the android text to speech synthesiser, so you can listen to each word. The pronunciation given is in standard mandarin (putonghua), meaning you will improve your listening skills and pronunciation. We also provide the putonghua pinyin conversion, making it a great pinyin learning app.

Pinyin is provided with all Mandarin flashcards as well as English translation, meaning you can learn Chinese characters along with their pinyin representation.

All word lists from the HSK exam are included so that you can be fully prepared for your HSK test.

We even provide some tips to help improve your grammar and Chinese sentences.
