De N.V. Luchthaven Schiphol is als exploitant van de luchthaven Schiphol verplicht te zorgen voor de voorzieningen die nodig zijn voor een goede afwikkeling van het luchtverkeer en het daarmee samenhangende personen- en goederenvervoer op de luchthaven. Om aan deze verplichting te voldoen heeft de exploitant o.a. de Schipholregels opgesteld die gelden voor iedereen die zich op de luchthaven bevindt. Naast de Schipholregels geldt( inter-) nationale wet- en regelgeving waaraan iedereen zich dient te houden op de luchthaven.
